1. What digital platforms are students currently using to develop their professional network?

LinkedIn is a well known platform using for professional networking. Since LinkedIn allows users to input their career status and other professional identity, students use it to find jobs and connect with others. It is a great digital platform for students to build professional networks and connect with industry employers.

UVic web email is another platform that I would use for professional connections. It seems more formal than messaging through any other email address when communicating with professors or employers. It provide users with an identity.

2. What could the student consider in expanding their professional learning network?

We all have different kind of approach to social media. Especially when it comes to our geographic use of social media, platforms and networking. One of the best practices to expand our professional learning network is to connect with others who share our educational background or area of inquiry. It will result in getting the most out of the time you put into creating new connections.

3. In your network, how can you create a digital identity/ reputation? Consider how an employer would respond if you applied for a job with them and they assessed your social media presence via your digital identity.

In today’s connected world, an employer can look you up and check your views on politics, your communications with your friends and etc. Their intention is to do risk management and identify concerns to their business. They don’t want someone who might negatively impact them in their professional brand. They want someone whose digital identity mach the corporate core values.

4. You can create your V+R Map with any platform you feel comfortable with – you can draw it out and take a photo if you

I have shared my V+R Map as featured image of this post. Please review and leave a comment for me. Is your V+R Map similar to mine?
